Community Day

Questions about Community Day? Email Joe Esper - jesper@tjyca.com

Community day for the Cheerleaders is a big day for TJYCA. We are a big part of the parade and the events that follow. Participating in this even is a lot of fun and helps the Cheerleaders raise money for thier squads. We ask that all the girls participate in all “Community Day” events that are scheduled.

Events Include:

Parade, Selling of Halushka and Performances

Community day guidelines

  • We ask that girls participate in our annual “Community Day” events we have scheduled.
  • There will be no riding in vehicles; cheerleaders in the parade wearing TJ uniforms will walk.
  • Have water on hand for the girls during the parade.
  • Parents are not permitted to walk in the Parade, unless they have a vital part in events that are planned or are involved in TJYCA.
  • Midriffs are not worn.

Haluski Recipe

(Double Recipe to be used for Pleasant Hills Comm. Day)

(We try to have everyone use the same recipe so that the haluski is uniform throughout the day)

1 small Cabbage (dice pieces to medium size)

1 large Onion (dice pieces to medium size)

1 stick of Butter

1 pound of Wide Noodles

Salt & Pepper to taste

1. Bring a large pot of water to boil, cooked noodles as directed.

2. Melt butter in large pan. Add cabbage and onion, season with salt and pepper. Sauté until tender.

3. Drain noodles and add to cabbage mixture; mix well.

4. Continue to cook cabbage and noodles until cabbage starts to brown.

Note: The secret to good Haluski is to let the cabbage cook down until it is almost caramelized before adding the noodles (usually the length of time it takes to boil the noodles). Also, you can adjust the amount of noodles used to the size of the cabbage (approx. 2 cups of cooked noodles to 4 cups of cooked cabbage).
